Utah School Counselor Association Fall Conference 2019

The U.S. Army is striving to improve the levels of resilience and readiness within the force. Resilience is the mental, physical, emotional and behavioral ability to face and cope with adversity, adapt to change, recover, learn and grow from setbacks. It is vital that wounded, ill and injured Soldiers have the tools to overcome adversity, transition back to the force or onto civilian life and leverage mental and emotional skills and behavior.  These same skills that we teach our Soldiers can be used in a classroom environment to help our students overcome some of the challenges, perceived and real, that they face.
 
This session will focus on "Hunting the Good Stuff" to counter the negative bias, create positive emotion, and to notice and analyze what is good in our lives and those of our students.  To do this we will develop a strategy to implement to remind us of the good things happening in our lives.  To start with have you and your students should record three good things each day and write a reflection next to each positive event about one or more of the following topics:
•Why this good thing happened
•What this good thing means to you
•What you can do tomorrow to enable more of this good thing
•What ways you or others contribute to this good thing
Have your students do this everyday for 21 days and then both you and them can see "the good stuff" happening in their lives.
